Twisted/Double Twisted Ribbing
Twisted ribbing is similar to regular ribbing however but knitting through the back loop which adds an extra twist to the stitch and as such it gives a more refined look, with a tighter, more defined front column and a regular purl column the look is more loose/lacey when next to the twisted stitch. Double twisted rib is denser because you purl and knit through the back loop on both sides, giving a more structured look.

Twisted Rib:
For twisted knit, on the right side you will knit through the back loop and a regular purl. On the wrong side, you will knit through the back loop and do a regular purl. On the wrong side, you will purl through the back loop and do a regular knit stitch. Do this in whatever ribbing pattern the instructions tell you 1×1, and 2×2 are the most popular options.
Double Twisted Rib:
For a double twisted rib, you will both purl and knit through the back loop for every stitch rather than flipping between rows.

Knit Stitch:
Insert the right needle into the first loop on the left needle from front to back, wrap the yarn, pull a new loop through, and slid the old stitch off. Continue that until your finish your row.
Knit Through The Back Loop:

Knitting through the back loop is almost the same process; you just insert the needle through the back of the loop going right to left (similar to a purl).

Purl Stitch:
Ensure the working yarn is in the front of your work, insert your right-hand needle into the first stitch on the left-hand needle from right to left (front to back), with the right needle sitting on top of the left needle, wrap the yarn around the tip of the right-hand needle in a counterclockwise motion, pull the new loop back through the stitch with the right needle and slip the old stitch off the left-hand needle. This results in the reverse of a knit stitch.
Purl Through The Back Loop:

Purling through the back loop is almost the same process; you just insert the needle through the back of the loop going left to right (similar to a knit).
Note:
Try not to get confused with the back loop. Purling through the back loop looks more like knitting and knitting through the back loop looks more like purling. Also, double twisted rib will make your knitting tighter (which is why it’s popular for necklines) so make sure to check that it isn’t too small.
